my science project is about “do labels affect the choice of clothing amonst teens!?
1. Question: Do labels or brands affect the choice of clothing among teens? Would they choose the same clothing if the labels were absent?
2. Background information: No wonder teens talk waaaaay more about labels than their parents. A recent survey of more than 2,000 13- to 17-year-olds by marketing consultants Keller Fay Group found that kids have 145 conversations about brands per week. Adults invoke brand names about half as often.
3. This study sheds light on dress as it is involved in the social construction of femininity, and in particular how sororities are engaged in this process. As institutions, the sororities in this study trained their members toward a traditional notion of femininity that was visually expressed in appearance. New sorority members (pledges) were actively involved in the social construction of gender as they adopted the sororities’ idealized images and roles pertaining to femininity.
4. Teens have a love-hate relationship with brands. While they tend to be brand loyal, most say they are savvy enough to know that they are being marketed to, according to a new Teen + Brands study by Viacom’s The N channel.
5.
6. Nearly half (46%) of teens surveyed said they tend to stick with a few of the brands they really like. But, 52% felt, “Brands are created by marketers just to get more money.”
7.
8. The report created in conjunction with Open Mind Research, New York, and OTX Research, Los Angeles—and based on interviews with 1,000-plus kids 13-19 online, via cell phones and in focus groups in March—revealed Generation Y to be a somewhat schizophrenic generation.
9.
10. For instance, a third of those polled agreed, “If there were no brands, the world would be better.” Yet 29% claim “having cool brands makes me feel cool” and that they are “obsessed with brand names.”
Hypotenuse: I think that people will be more for the brand name things than the thing in from target. But I also think it matters about what type of person you are like your favorite color and the type of grope your in and your favorite store to go to.
Procedure: for my procedure I’m going to do a survey six teens’ ages (13-14) I’m going to ask them what there favorite color is and what type of person they are (jock) and there favorite shops are.
Materials: I needed a piece of paper crayola crayons and 6 teens.
Conclusion: I know that teenagers age with time and all of that. But at the age of 13-14 you are still trying to figure out how you are suppose to go on a date put on your makeup on and get good grades with all of that you also have to have time for fashion, clothes and puberty. So my conclusion will be that most people want to be in with the “in” crowd and be popular. So most teens would rather wear Abercrombie or Hollister (62%). and (38%) would rather wear target clothes for now. but trust me you will want to wear what the in crowd is wearing sooner or later.
